ASL Aviation Holdings has acquired two Boeing 747-400ERF freighters that had previously operated within the ASL Group fleet under lease. The aircraft, MSN 33516 (OE-IFB) and MSN 33945 (OE-IFD), are operated by ASL Airlines Belgium, with ownership transferred to ASL Aviation Holdings on 7 August.

ASL Aviation Holdings is an aviation services group headquartered in Swords, County Dublin, Ireland, and owned by London-based private equity firm Star Capital Partners. The company operates a network of cargo and charter airlines across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australasia, though its financials are not publicly disclosed.

The transaction, first detailed by Air Cargo News, forms part of the group's ongoing fleet and asset strategy, supporting the continued development of its international air cargo platform.

Both aircraft are established within the group's long-haul freighter fleet and will continue supporting ASL's global air cargo operations. The acquisition strengthens ASL Aviation Holdings' commitment to investing in its long-haul freighter business and expanding its owned aircraft portfolio, according to the company.

The structural driver is ASL's wider shift toward owning rather than leasing core freighter assets, a strategy behind its recent run of fleet investments across its network.

Earlier this month, ASL committed to adding four more aircraft to the ASL Airlines Australia fleet, strengthening its existing Boeing 737-800BCF network and supporting expansion of its Australia and New Zealand operations. This follows the recent launch of cargo operations at Western Sydney International Airport.

Three months earlier, ASL Airlines Australia signed a sale-and-purchase agreement for the takeover of Airwork's New Zealand and Australia freight business. Airwork Holdings, excluding its Airwork Flight Operations, Airwork Personnel and AFO Australia businesses, went into receivership in July of last year, followed by certain assets of Airwork Ireland in September — a consolidation pattern that continues to shape ownership of freighter capacity across the group's markets.

For the sector, the acquisition underscores growing appetite among cargo operators to consolidate ownership of long-haul freighter capacity rather than rely on leased aircraft.
