BMW tests hydrogen trucks to decarbonise heavy-duty logistics

BMW Group is piloting hydrogen-powered trucks as part of its bold push towards zero-emissions logistics. Two fuel-cell trucks are now running real-world routes in Germany under the H2Haul project, supported by partners like DHL and Iveco. With fast refuelling and long range, hydrogen trucks could sidestep grid dependency and complement battery-electric fleets.

This move is part of BMW’s broader strategy to slash emissions across global transport operations. By trialling both hydrogen fuel cells and combustion engines, BMW is gathering critical insights into which tech fits which role—balancing performance, cost, and infrastructure readiness.
