Northern Ireland wholesale and retail operator Henderson Group has implemented Zetes' Full Pallet Inventory solution across five warehouse facilities serving Henderson Wholesale and Henderson Foodservice operations, according to a report in LogInfo24.

The company faced operational challenges including misallocated pallets, inaccurate inventory data and slow stock-checking processes leading to delays, increased labour costs and difficulties maintaining optimal inventory levels. Henderson Wholesale supplies independent and company-owned stores whilst Henderson Foodservice serves restaurants, hotels and schools across Northern Ireland.

Logistics Director Philip Mehaffey stated: "As part of our partnership, we have continuously integrated new supply chain technologies to optimize our warehouse processes. Full Pallet Inventory has transformed our inventory control. The project was originally based on a three-year plan, but it paid off after just two years, one year earlier than planned."

Zetes' Full Pallet Inventory system incorporates a forklift-mounted ImageID Machine Vision station capturing pallet and barcode data at speeds reaching 10 kilometres per hour. The technology integrates directly with Henderson Group's Warehouse Management System, providing real-time transparency that minimises misallocated inventory and reduces write-offs for expired products.

The automated scanning eliminates manual processes, delivering increased efficiency and reduced operating costs whilst ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements through verifiable, time-stamped images meeting quality control standards. The system's mobile design enables Henderson Group to relocate equipment between warehouses as operational requirements change.

A key advantage is the minimal training requirement, allowing rapid onboarding of temporary workers—a critical consideration given Henderson Group's reliance on flexible labour to manage seasonal demand fluctuations. The partnership between Henderson Group and Zetes has continued for over 20 years, focusing on logistics process optimisation through progressive technology adoption.

The implementation demonstrates how warehouse automation can address persistent operational inefficiencies in wholesale distribution whilst delivering measurable financial returns ahead of projected timelines.
