A Trusted Leader in Logistics Education

Declan Allen is one of Ireland’s most respected figures in logistics and supply chain education. With over 30 years’ experience in academic leadership and management, he currently serves as Head of Logistics, Supply Chain and Project Management at Technological University Dublin, where he plays a pivotal role in shaping the next generation of logistics professionals.

As a former Head of the Department of Transport Engineering at DIT, Declan has continually championed the development of industry-relevant education, forging strong partnerships with key stakeholders and advancing academic programmes that meet the evolving demands of the sector.

A Driving Force in Global Skills Development

Declan’s commitment to logistics education extends far beyond the lecture hall. He has proudly represented Ireland on the world stage, including as:

• Chief Examiner for the Logistics National Skills Competition (WorldSkills Ireland)
• Ireland’s Expert at WorldSkills Kazan 2019
• Chief Expert for Freight Forwarding at WorldSkills Salzburg 2022
• Skills Competition Manager for Logistics & Freight Forwarding at WorldSkills Lyon 2024

These roles reflect his global influence in promoting vocational excellence and developing future leaders in logistics and transport.

Thought Leader and Industry Contributor

A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (UK) and former Chair of CILT Ireland’s Education Committee, Declan has long been a champion of industry-academic collaboration. He has published widely on automotive, logistics, and supply chain topics, and is currently a Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA) candidate at Grenoble Ecole de Management in France.

His work continues to bridge the gap between research, real-world application, and policy-making—helping to shape a smarter, more resilient logistics sector for Ireland and beyond.
