Port of Holyhead reopening delayed again as weather disrupts final repairs

The full reopening of the Port of Holyhead has been postponed once more, just a day before it was due. Terminal 3, closed since Storm Darragh struck in December, will now reopen this Saturday, after adverse weather delayed final repair works. Terminal 5 resumed operations in January, but the second berth’s prolonged closure has continued to impact Holyhead-Dublin ferry traffic, parcel delivery, and local businesses.

With Irish Sea trade flows and holiday travel repeatedly disrupted, the delay underscores vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure and the importance of climate-resilient repair strategies.
