Northern Ireland-based Hannon Holdings has reported turnover of £107.2 million, ranking ninth in this year's Next 200, with the company investing £40 million in new facilities at Nutts Corner and Balbriggan in north Dublin, according to reporting in Belfast Telegraph.

Chief Executive Aodh Hannon stated the Nutts Corner development could create some 250 jobs alone. The company now employs around 900 staff with approximately 400 trucks on the road. Transport and logistics remains by far the largest part of the group, with complementary businesses including Hannon PharmaLink, Hannon Steel, Hannon Fleet Sales and Hannon Coach.

Hannon stated: "At its core our business is temperature-controlled logistics between Ireland and mainland Europe. A big part of how we do that is through our groupage or LTL (less-than-truckload) network, where we consolidate multiple consignments into shared trailers moving across Europe. That model really underpins supply chain responsiveness for many of our customers, because it allows them to move smaller volumes more frequently rather than waiting until have a full truckload."

The majority of traffic moves via the UK land bridge, which remains the most efficient route between Ireland and mainland Europe. Outbound traffic from Ireland into mainland Europe consists of meat and dairy products for Irish exporters supplying continental markets, whilst return legs bring large volumes of fresh fruit and vegetables into Ireland for retailers, wholesalers and food businesses.

Hannon Transport specialises in fresh goods transport, particularly fresh flowers. The firm's haulage business focuses on the Netherlands to Ireland corridor for fresh-cut flowers and other horticultural products.
